Frequently Asked Questions
Cap Composite Fence
Can I use Cap Composite fencing as a retaining wall?
Frame it All Cap Composite Fencing is not designed to act as a retaining wall and should not be used for this purpose.
Can the fence pickets or boards touch the ground?
We recommend preventing the pickets or horizontal boards from touching the ground as this may cause degradation of the composite over time.
Can Frame it All Cap Composite Pickets be used with wood post and rails?
Yes. When installing Cap Composite pickets onto wood posts and rails, we recommend installing with Starborn Industries Epoxy Coated Fascia Screw #10 X 1-7/8".
What are the benefits of Cap Composite fencing?
Cap Composite never requires any painting or staining and resist color fading from the sun. The composite mixture is made of recycled plastic and sustainably sourced hardwood fiber. This mixture makes Frame it All Fence Boards resistant to pests, mold, and rot, lasting much longer than other materials such as wood or vinyl.
Can I install my Cap Composite Fence with no gap between the ground and the fence?
We recommend having some gap between the ground and fence to prevent direct contact with soil and pooling water. Having a fence section touch the ground also makes it difficult to have a consistent fence as an unlevel grade will cause some sections of the fence to be further in the ground than others.
Can the Cap Composite Pickets and Horizontal Boards be cut?
Yes. We recommend using a 60-tooth Carbide-Tipped Circular Saw Blade when cutting Cap Composite Pickets and Horizontal Boards. This blade will create the cleanest cut.
How do I maintain a Cap Composite Fence?
Yes. We recommend using a 60-tooth Carbide Circular Saw Blade when cutting Cap Composite Pickets and Horizontal Boards. This blade will create the cleanest cut.
How long is the Warranty for Frame it All Cap Composite Fencing?

Can Picket Fence or Horizontal Fence be installed on a slope?
Yes. There are several methods to achieve this. One option is to use the stepping method, where fence panels are kept at a consistent height with the top of the panel always being level. This option may not be ideal for steep slopes as it can leave large gaps under the fence. Another option is to rack your fence. This option cannot be done with Horizontal Fence panels however it can be done with Cap Composite Pickets. This involves constructing the fence panel to go along the slope, with the top of the fence panel matching the angle of the slope. This option is preferred for steeper slopes.
Will the color of my Cap Composite Fence fade over time?
Frame it All Cap Composite Pickets and horizontal boards are made with UV resistant additives that resist color fading over time. Any color fading experienced will be marginal over a long period of time.
What is Co-extrusion in Composite Fencing?
Co-extrusion is the manufacturing process in which multiple layers of composite material are extruded in parallel. This allows us to put a durable Cap onto our Pickets and Horizontal Boards that has key properties such as UV Resistance, Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal, Salt Air Resistance, and Scratch Resistance.
Do all Frame it All Composite Fence Products have 360 Cap Coat technology?
Yes! All Frame it All Composite Fence products have the 360 Cap Coat. This includes our Individual Pickets, Pre-Assembled Panels, Composite Post Sleeve, Cap Composite Rails, and Horizontal Fence Boards.
What is the difference between Cap Composite and Uncapped Composite Fencing?
Cap Composite Fencing has an outer layer that surrounds the inner composite material. This outer Cap Coat has key properties such as UV Resistance, Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal, Salt Air Resistance, and Scratch Resistance allowing it to out last Uncapped Composite Fencing. This outer layer also allows us to create fence pickets and boards with more complex colors. Uncapped Composite Fencing does not have the added benefits of a Cap Coat and is more susceptible to the elements and foreign agents such as mold, bacteria, rot, and pests. Uncapped Composite Fencing also does not have multiple layers, so the entire panel is only a single color with little complexity. Color fading is a common issue seen in uncapped composite.
Can I paint or stain my Cap Composite Fence?
The top of the pickets can be painted using Acrylic Latex Paint. We do not recommend painting any areas of the board that are covered by the cap coat.
For best color match, pair these picket colors and pantone colors:
- Mahogany: SW 9183 Dark Clove
- Ironwood: SW 7069 Iron Ore
- River Birch: SW 7046 Anonymous
- Cedar: SW 7724 Canoe
- Maple: SW 9096 Beige Intenso
